Garnet Baseball Even for the Day

TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla. -- The Swarthmore (3-2) baseball team split this afternoon's double-header with Cazenovia (2-3) winning game one, 11-8, while the Wildcats held off Swarthmore to claim the second game by the score of 12-7 Tuesday at Florida College.

In the first game of the afternoon, the Garnet trailed going into the top of the seventh inning, 8-5. The Garnet scored five runs to rally back for the win. Sophomore pitcher Zach Sinemus (Short Hills, N.J. / Millburn) picked up the win in relief while pitcher Scott Dalane ’08 (Vernon, N.J. / Vernon Township) picked up his first save.

At the plate, James Bernard ’11 (Philadelphia, Pa. / Friends Select) had two RBIs and a double, also scored twice. Infielder Andy Eisenlohr ’11 (Lower Merion, Pa. / Lower Merion) went 2 for4, driving in two runs. Junior Kevin Kooi (Lafayette, Calif. / College Preparatory School) went 2 for 2 with an RBI and one run scored. Senior Ben Mendelson (Sabbatus, Maine / Lewiston) was 2 for 2 and scored two runs in the first game of the afternoon.

Cazenovia took a large lead to start the second game and the Garnet could not come back. Dalane went 3 for 4 with a double and an RBI, while Eisenlohr, Bernard and Wiley Archibald ’10 (Berkeley, Calif. / The College Preparatory School) all scored once.

Swarthmore will continue their spring break schedule on Thursday, March 13 with a double-header against Daniel Webster--first pitch is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
