Bullets Down Garnet

GETTYSBURG, Pa. -- The Gettysburg Bullets women's basketball team picked up a 84-72 victory over Swarthmore to improve their record to 15-8 overall and 11-5 in the Centennial Conference, while the Garnet dropped to 6-16, 3-13 CC in the Bream Gym on Saturday afternoon.

Garnet freshman Kathryn Stockbower (Ft. Washington, Pa. / Upper Dublin) registered her 19th double-double of the season scoring a team-high 19 points and grabbing 12 boards, coming off the bench Melissa Grigsby ’09 (West Chester, Pa. / West Chester East) scored a season-high 14 points for the Garnet. Senior Karen Berk (Havertown, Pa. / Haverford) also scored 14 points and picked up eight rebounds.

Bullet sophomore Allie Drechsler (Westminster, Md. /Winters Mill) aided her team’s scoring runs with a game-high 21 points and added eight rebounds. Senior Megan Hartman (Lewiston, Pa./Indian Valley) tied a career-high with 18 points, while sophomore Courtney Fields (Baltimore, Md./St. Paul’s School for Girls) and freshman Caitlin Moser (Wyomissing, Pa./Wyomissing) each scored in double-figures with 17 and 14 points, respectively.

On Saturday afternoon, Gettysburg held their Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) “Think Pink” initiative event in an effort to raise breast cancer awareness. Donations were being collected each time a three-pointer was made and both teams obliged the audience with a combined 17 made shots from long distance.

The Garnet travel to Chestertown, Md. on Wednesday, Feb. 20th for the final away game of the season against Washington College at 6:00 p.m. Swarthmore will hold their annual Alumnae game on Saturday, Feb. 23rd and will also host their Senior Day game against long-time rival Haverford College. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
