Heaney Named CoSIDA Academic All-District
SWARTHMORE, Pa. -- Swarthmore libero Erin Heaney has been selected to the 2007 ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District II College Division Volleyball third team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
The District II College Division consists of all NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA colleges and universities in Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. To be nominated for the team, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a 3.2 cumulative grade-point average and a starter or significant reserve on his team.
Heaney, a junior captain, (pictured right) was recently selected second team All-Centennial Conference, while also being named to the Centennial Academic Honor Roll for the second year in a row. The libero led the Conference with 5.18 digs a game in 2007 and her season total of 492 digs broke the school record for digs in a season, previously held by Patrice Berry ’06 (488 digs).
Heaney is a Political Science major, and is seeking a minor in sociology and anthropology. Heaney received the S2A2 Action Award from Lang Center, the College’s center for civil and social responsibility. She has been a focal part of the Swarthmore-Sudan movement, the local branch of a national effort to raise funding, provide relief for the people of the Darfur Region in Africa. Heaney traveled to New Orleans during spring break, volunteering to do relief work, is a member of TopsSoccer, teaching handicapped children various skills, has served on planning board for Peace Week 2006 and is active as a Student Academic Advisor.
Swarthmore completed the 2007 season with an overall record of 9-18 and finished seventh in the Centennial with a 4-6 mark.
