Dylan Drops Double on Crusaders, Garnet Remain Undefeated on the Road

READING, Pa. - Swarthmore sophomore midfielder Dylan Langley (Honolulu, Hawaii / Iolani) scored his first two goals of the season as the Swarthmore men's soccer team defeated Alvernia 3-1Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action. The Garnet's third straight victory improves their record to 9-2-3 while Alvernia drops to 5-10-1.

The match saw plenty of action early with Langley scoring at 2:59 on a ball deflected in off the goalie's clear attempt. The lead would not last for long as the Crusader freshman forward Morgan Davidheiser (Boyertown, Pa. / Boyertown Area) notched his team leading 11th goal of the season at 11:09 to even the score 1-1.

The score would not stay tied for long as Langley headed in his second goal off an assist from midfielder Yoi Tibbetts '09 (Sandwich, Mass. / Sandwich) at 11:23 to put the Garnet ahead for good. Langley totaled a match-high in shots (five), shots on goal (four), and goals (two).

Swarthmore was able to hold off Alvernia throughout the match with strong defense led by goalie Zach Weimar '10 (Rutledge, Pa. / Friends Central). He tallied four saves for his second win of the season. The goal allowed was his first in over 300 minutes of action this season.

Garnet junior forward Evan Nesterak (Parker, Colo. / Ponderosa) provided an insurance goal off a feed from midfielder Stu Leon '09 (Wrentham, Mass. / King Philip Regional)  at 69:44 to seal the win in the visitor's favor. It was the third goal of the year for Nesterak and fourth assist for Morgan Langley.

The Garnet dominated possession of the ball, out-shooting the Crusaders by a margin of 24-8. Swarthmore also earned eight corner kicks compared the home team's one.

The Crusaders received strong play from junior goalie Richard Kessler (Reading, Pa. / Reading) who made nine saves in defeat.

Swarthmore will look to continue its strong road play (4-0-3) as they get back into Centennial action this Saturday afternoon with a match at McDaniel starting at 1:00 p.m. The Garnet return to Clothier Field next Wednesday for a 7:00 p.m. date with Muhlenberg.
