Colombo’s Hat-Trick Too Much to Bear

SWARTHMORE, Pa.- A five-star match-up turned into a 4-0 win for the Swarthmore women's soccer team (11-1-0, 6-1-0 CC) on Wednesday night when the Ursinus Bears (9-4-2, 6-1-1 CC) visited Clothier Field.

The Garnet started the night out with a pair of back-to-back goals by freshman Megan Colombo (Arcadia, Calif./ Arcadia). Sarah Reece '11 (Manhattan Beach, Calif. Mira Costa) sent a long pass up the field for forward Kelsey Cline (Camano Island, Wash./ Stanwood) who flicked one on to Colombo at 7:03 for the Garnet's first goal of the night.

Posting her sixth goal of the season shortly thereafter, Colombo received a quick pass from Cline, putting the hometown team up 2-0 to close the first half.

Colombo picked up her first collegiate hat-trick with an unassisted goal at 46:01. The last Garnet woman to score three times in one game was forward Katie Kanuka '10 (Oakville, Canada/ Holy Trinity) on Oct. 11, 2006 at Bryn Mawr.

Cline finished off the scoring for Swarthmore, cleaning up a rebound shot by Reece at 56:35 for her sixth goal of the season.

Garnet junior goalkeeper Lauren Walker (Fallston, Md./ Hotchkiss School) posted her seventh shut out of the season. Ursinus senior goalie Ashley Potter (East Stroudsburg, Pa./ East Stroudsburg) recorded six saves for the Bears.

Garnet women's soccer continues when they travel to Gettysburg this Saturday, Oct. 20th for a 3:00 match, they will return to Clothier Field Oct. 27th for their last home game against Franklin & Marshall.
