Despite Big Efforts, Garnet Take Tough Loss
Swarthmore, Pa. - The Alvernia Crusaders (10-3) beat the Swarthmore Garnet (5-7) Monday night in a 1-0 game at Clothier Field.
The first half was evenly matched, with both teams taking three shots on goal each. During the scoreless half, the Crusaders out shot the Garnet 8-5.
The even play continued to start the second half. It was a scoreless game until freshman Crusader Christy Yousaitis (West Lawn, Pa./ Wilson) scored an unassisted goal with 44:34 in the game. The Garnet refused to let up and continued to play hard to the end. They had several attempts on goal but the rock solid Crusader junior goalie Audrey Hoffman (Mertztown, Pa./ Brandywine Heights) turned them all aside.
Hoffman held the goal line well in the night's game, posting 10 saves for the Crusaders. Katie Ashmore '11 (Princeton, N.J./ Princeton) had 5 saves in net for the Garnet.
Swarthmore field hockey resumes as they travel to Allentown, Pa. for a Centennial Conference contest against Muhlenberg on Wed., Oct. 10 at 7:00.
