Dickinson Be-Devils Garnet
SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Dickinson Red Devils (8-3, 1-2 CC) came out with a 4-2 win over host Swarthmore (5-6, 2-3) in Centennial Conference action on Clothier Field.
Dickinson, striking first, scored a goal at 13:13, with Red Devils' sophomore Alyssa Sands (Copley, Ohio/ Western Reserve Academy) posting her fifth tally of the season. Making it a two-goal lead for the Red Devils, freshman Leah Kaplan (Montclair, N.J./ Montclair) scored off a penalty corner, with sophomore Katelynn Bias (Gaithersburg, Md./ Bullis School) getting credit for the assist. The Garnet quickly fought back, and with 28:25 on the clock, made it a 2-1 game. Midfielder Joslyn Young '10 (Ann Arbor, Mich./ Community) got credit for the goal, tipping in a Jordan Schmidt '09 (Houston, Texas/ St. John's School) blast. At the end of the half, Swarthmore held a 13-7 advantage in shots.
Senior forward Abbie Fischer '08 (Sudbury, Mass./ Lincoln-Sudbury Regional) took her turn to tip a Schmidt blast home to tie the game just 3:19 into the second period--Schmidt's two-assist game is the first of her career. Red Devil senior Megan Kelly (Lititz, Pa./ Warwick) put home the game-winning goal at 43:46 and later tacked one more on for good measure to complete the scoring. Kelly's goals were assisted by freshman Lizzie Boorse (Center Valley, Pa./ Southern Lehigh) and Sands.
Katie Ashmore '11 (Princeton, N.J./ Princeton) made six saves in goal for the Garnet, while Young and Schmidt both had one defensive save. Red Devils sophomore netminder Amanda West (Harleysville, Pa./ North Penn) had a busy day in net, posting 12 saves.
Swarthmore field hockey continues its season on Monday, when the Garnet host Alvernia on Oct. 8, at 7:00 on Clothier Field.
