Swarthmore Women Open Up Conference Slate with Win

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore women's soccer team continued their undefeated season on Saturday afternoon, topping Centennial-Conference rival Dickinson 2-0 at Clothier Field.

Swarthmore (4-0, 1-0 CC) opened up a 1-0 lead in the 18th minute as freshman Kirsten Peterson (Fenton, Mich / Powers Catholic), in the game for just five seconds, held her ground at the top of the Red Devils' box. The Swarthmore corner kick attempt from sophomore Monica Cody (Torrance, Calif/. / Marymount) was played back by classmate Maggie DeLorme (Busby, Mary. / Patuxent) right to Peterson. The freshman hammered the ball into the side panel for her first collegiate goal at 17:51.

Swarthmore's second score came 20 minutes later as freshman forward Kelsey Cline (Stanwood, Wash. / Stanwood) picked up a loose ball that was mishandled by Dickinson goalkeeper Kailyn Hartman. Cline dribbled the ball across the goal line at 37:01 for her second goal of the season.

The Garnet out-shot the Red Devils (3-4, 0-1 CC) 17-8, including a 10-3 advantage in the first half. With her third shut out in a row, Swarthmore goalkeeper Lauren Walker '09 (Fallston, Mary. / The Hotchkiss School) picked up four saves against the Red Devils' offense.

With a busy afternoon in the net Dickinson goalie Hartman registered eight saves.

The Garnet will face Albright on Tuesday, September 18 taking to the road for a 7:00 kick-off.
