Garnet Make Head-Way, Fall to Bullets

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Swarthmore outside hitters Erica George '07 and Jennifer Wang '09 posted double-doubles as the Garnet (11-10, 3-4 CC) fell to Gettysburg 3-1 in Centennial volleyball action Saturday afternoon. 

The Bullets (15-8, 6-1 CC), the eleven-time Centennial champions, won the match by scores of 30-26, 30-22, 25-30, 30-25.  Swarthmore's win in the fourth game is the first time since 1985 that a Garnet team has taken a game from perennial powerhouse Gettysburg.

Gettysburg was led by junior Lauren Thul with 19 kills and 13 digs while senior Caitlyn Barr added 13 kills and four blocks.  Bullets setter Amanda Krampf handed out 51 assists while senior libero Steph Vial collected 35 digs.

George had a team-high 14 kills and 20 digs for her tenth double-double while fellow hitter Wang collected ten kills and also registered 20 digs for her fourth double-double of 2006.  Wang and freshman outside hitter Johanna Bond each had three service aces.  Freshman setter Kearney Bangs handed out 30 assists while junior middle blockers Katherine Gold (six blocks) and Karen Berk (five blocks) led the defense at the net.

Swarthmore travels to Neumann on Tuesday, Oct. 17 for a 7:00 p.m. match and will return to Tarble Pavilion for Senior Night on Thursday, Oct. 19 when Centennial foe F&M comes to town for a 7:00 p.m. match.
