Abigail Fishes Up Another Win
SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Garnet field hockey team evened their Centennial Conference record at 1-1 with a 4-0 victory over Bryn Mawr on a sunny afternoon on the Main Line. Junior forward Abigail Fischer had a goal and an assist in the winning effort.
Fischer gave the Garnet the lead for good 17:20 into the match, putting in a rebound goal after Sarah Reynolds '09's initial shot was saved. Joslyn Young '10 extended the lead to 2-0 just over two minutes later with her first collegiate goal off of a Lindsay Roth '07 feed.
Swarthmore dominated the first half, outshooting the Owls 14-0.
Sophomore Ashley Gunter scored 4:30 into the second half, with Fischer getting the assist. Gunter and Fischer remain tied for the team lead in goals, now with seven apiece. Freshman Abbe Muller wrapped up the scoring with an unassisted goal with 14:45 remaining.
Garnet goaltender Melissa LaVan '07 made two saves to improve to 3-1 on the season.
Swarthmore (6-3, 1-1 CC) returns to action on Saturday afternoon against CC foe Dickinson at 2:00 p.m. at Clothier Stadium.
