Men’s Track & Field: Garnet Run Through Rain at Widener Open
CHESTER, Pa. - The Garnet distance runners posted four personal bests and sprinter Nick Graham ran a top-ten time in the 100 meters as Swarthmore competed at the Widener Invitational on the campus of Widener University this weekend.
Senior Paul Thibodeau (23rd - 15:43.97), freshman Erik Saka (31st - 15:53.58), freshman Dan Hodson (32nd - 15:55.17), and senior Patrick Hart (59th - 18:02.46) all ran their lowest times in the 5,000 meters on Friday evening.
On Saturday, Graham was the story, finishing third out 27 runners in the 100 meter dash, posting a time of 11.47. Senior Tyler Lyson also ran strong in the short distances, finishing eighth in the 200 meters (23.67) and 19th in the 400 meters (53.44).
Three Garnet men raced at 800 meters, led by junior Dillon McGrew in 12th place in a time of 2:00.26. Freshman Connor Darby was 15th (2:00.96) and junior Russell Wight was 22nd (2:03.54).
Junior Vernon Chaplin ran 12th out of 67 competitors in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:04.22 Senior Adam Hunt also competed, finishing 27th (4:11.70) while classmate Keefe Keeley was 35th with a time of 4:16.44.
