Men’s Tennis: Garnet Shake Down Bobcats
SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Garnet (5-10) held off the Bates Bobcats on Tuesday afternoon at Faulkner Courts. The Garnet, rebounding from a close loss to Washington less than a week ago, triumphed 5-2. Jon Reiss '07, Jonathon Lo '08, and Sam Sidhu '07 were victorious in both their doubles and singles matches.
Playing at No. 2 doubles, Reiss and Lo once again pushed their opponents to their breaking point. Bates managed to draw some points from Lo and Reiss with both soft and hard shots, but Reiss ended the match 8-6 with a perfected placed volley. Reiss and Lo also won their singles matches 6-1, 6-1 and 6-4, 6-2 respectively.
No.3 doubles Sidhu and Kevin Shaughnessy '09 exchanged some riveting rallies with Bates' tandem of Benjamin Stein and Patrick Conway. Shaughnessy's serving and timely communication kept the duo steady, and Sidhu ability to make the play put them over the top, 8-6.
After doling out some aces, Brian Park '06 swiftly took the first and third sets from his opponent, Greg Little . The second set reached a tie-breaker which Little took advantage of, but he was no match for Park, and the Garnet senior rolled 7-6, 6-2 from then on.
On Monday, April 24, the Garnet will play their last match of the season, hosting long time rival Haverford. The battle will commence at 3:30 p.m.
