Baseball: F&M Knox Off Garnet

GAME BOX SCORE

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Garnet juniors Ian Adelstein and Sam Faeder each had a hit and an RBI as Franklin & Marshall defeated Swarthmore 15-2 in Centennial Conference action on Tuesday afternoon.

Diplomats starter Jeremy Knox (7-1) pitched five perfect innings, striking out three batters to improve F&M's record to 21-8 overall and 11-2 in the Centennial.

The Garnet (6-18 overall, 1-12 CC) cut F&M's early 4-0 lead in half with a pair of runs off Brad Anders. Garnet sophomore Scott Dalane greeted Anders with a double to left-center to lead off the bottom of the sixth. After freshman Conor Casey moved Dalane to third with a ground out, freshman Kevin Kooi drew a walk. Kooi immediately swiped second base, his eighth stolen base of the season, to put two runners in scoring position. Faeder drove home Dalane with a single for the first Swarthmore. It is Faeder's 20th RBI of the season, a career-best.

Anders set Swarthmore senior Scott Young down on strikes, but Garnet infielder Patrick Christmas walked to load the bases. Adelstein made the score 4-2 by being patient and drawing another base on balls from Anders. F&M brought in Diplomats reliever sophomore Rob Goman who got designated hitter Travis Allen out to end the inning.

The Diplomats struck for six runs in the top of seventh to bust open the close game, adding two in the eight and three in the ninth.

F&M shortstop Andrew Hanson led the offense going 3-for-5 with a double and two RBIs.

The Garnet hope to avenge today's defeat this Friday, April 21 when they travel to Lancaster, Pa. to take on the Diplomats at 3:30 p.m.
