Baseball: Runs Aplenty as Devils Sweep Garnet
SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Garnet sophomore designated hitter Travis Allen had a game to remember, going 5-for-6 with two triples, a double, three runs, and two RBIs as Dickinson out-lasted Swarthmore 17-14 in game two of a Centennial Conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore outfielder Scott Dalane went 3-for-5 with two runs, two RBIs, and two stolen bases for the Garnet (6-17, 1-11 CC).
Dickinson won game one as well to complete the sweep, winning 8-0. Devils' starter Luke Volker pitched a complete-game five-hitter for his second win of the season and Dickinson ran off six hits and five runs in the sixth inning to earn their 12th win of the season.
Dickinson center fielder Chris McInerney and catcher Nicholas Perkins both had three hits.
Sophomore infielder Patrick Christmas led Swarthmore with two hits in the first game.
Game two saw Dickinson storm out to a 15-4 lead before Swarthmore awoke for three runs in the seventh and seven more in the eighth to cut the deficit to 17-14.
The Garnet continue their Centennial schedule on Tuesday, April 18 when the Franklin & Marshall Diplomats come to town for a 3:30 p.m. game.
