Women’s Track & Field: Wistar Wins 1500 At Grizzly Invite
COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - Senior Emily Wistar ran to victory at 1,500 meters and the Garnet finished sixth out of 12 teams at the Grizzly Invitational hosted at Ursinus College on Friday afternoon.
The Garnet collected 49 team points, finishing behind Division II entrants Coppin State (126) and West Chester University (123).
Wistar smoked her competition (23 runners), winning by over 10 seconds with a time of 4:54.30. That time is a personal-best for Wistar and the sixth-fastest in school history. Wistar had plenty of teammates join her in the top ten, as the Garnet filled out six spots at the race's conclusion. Senior Lauren Fety was third in 5:06.85, freshman Faith Pampel finished fourth with a 5:09.91, freshman Kathy Feeney was sixth in 5:12.68, sophomore Kavita Hardy ran seventh in 5:15.08, and Bess Ritter '09 completed the pack in eighth at 5:18.20.
Freshman sprinter Caitlin Mullarkey made a pair of strong runs as well, posting the seventh-fastest time (1:09.96) in her first attempt at the 400 intermediate hurdles. Mullarkey finished third out of 12 entrants. The freshman also finished 10th in the 100 meters (13.76) and took fifth out of 14 leapers in her first collegiate long jump competition after recording a distance of 15'4".
Swarthmore also had a strong contingent in the 800 meters: freshman Emma Stanley was third out of 23 runners (2:35.74), senior Lauren Fety was ninth in 2:41.932, and senior Vicky Woo came in 12th with a time of (2:45.40).
In the field events, junior Sam Graffeo posted a distance of 34' 3/4" to finish seventh in the shot put and senior Emily Conlon tossed the javelin 84' 5" to place fifth out of 10 competitors.
The Garnet return to Widener University on April 27 -28 for the annual Widener Invitational.
