OFFICIAL RELEASE

Swarthmore, PA - Swarthmore College women's lacrosse head coach Karen Borbee is one of 12 players named to the NCAA Division I Women's Lacrosse 25th Anniversary Team. The NCAA announced the selections on April 13.

She established records for goals (310) and points (420) in a career and still holds the school records for goals per game (4.65) and most points in a single game (16).  Borbee, who graduated with honors, was the NCAA Most Outstanding Player in 1983 and was also two-time East Coast Conference Player of the Year.

Borbee, a resident of Wallingford, Pa., was inducted into the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 2001.  She is also a member of the Philadelphia Chapter of the U.S. Lacrosse Hall of Fame, the Pennsylvania Lacrosse Hall of Fame, and the University of Delaware Athletics Hall of Fame.

A 1980 graduate of Penncrest (Pa.) High School, Borbee won all-star honors three times in her high school career and led her team to the Central League and state championships in 1979. She played for the U.S. National Team from 1982 to 1993, helping the team to the World Cup championship in 1989.

Since becoming the head lacrosse coach at Swarthmore in 1993, Borbee has rebuilt the program and achieved an overall record of 134-92, making her the all-time leader at Swarthmore in wins and placing her 11th on the Division III career wins list.  In addition to coaching lacrosse at Swarthmore, Borbee is the assistant athletic director and a professor of physical education.

Swarthmore has a current overall record of 12-3 and is 4-3 in the Centennial Conference.  This year's Garnet squad is the eighth in Borbee's tenure to reach double digits in wins.
