Women’s Lacrosse: #5 Gettysburg Shoots By Garnet
GETTYSBURG, Pa. — The Gettysburg Bullets scored 11 first-half goals on their way to a 15-3 Centennial victory over Swarthmore on Saturday.
The Garnet have lost only twice in 2006, both times falling to top-10 teams.
Gettysburg, coming off of a win over defending national champion College of New Jersey, asserted itself quickly, getting two goals in the first 2:11 of play from senior Jenn Kelly. Kelly completed the hat trick just over 10 minutes later to give the Bullets a 7-0 lead; the margin stretched to 8-0 before freshman midfielder Anna de Regt converted a Megan Sanborn '08 feed with 11:31 left in the half.
Gettysburg added four more goals before the halftime buzzer and took an 11-1 lead into the break.
Garnet goaltender Susannah Blair '08 faced 22 first-half shots and made all five of her saves in the first 30 minutes.
The Bullets extended their lead to 14-1 late in the second half before freshman Melissa Grigsby moved up from her defenseman position to fire the ball past goalkeeper Susan Meyers for her first career goal.
Junior Lindsay Roth finished out the scoring with an unassisted tally with 54 seconds remaining in the game.
Roth finished with a team-high five shots and three draw controls.
Gettysburg ended the game with a 28-15 advantage in shots.
The Garnet (9-2, 1-2 CC) will travel to Chestertown, Maryland on Thursday afternoon to face Washington College at 4:00 p.m.
