3/16: Garnet Make It Four In a Row
SWARTHMORE, Pa. — Swarthmore (4-3) ran its win streak to four games in a row, rolling over Immaculata 8-0 to win the opening game of the season at Clothier Fields on Thursday afternoon.
The second game was halted because of darkness in the bottom of the fourth inning with Swarthmore leading 13-0. Because the game did not complete five innings, it is not official. More information will be available shortly.
The four-game winning streak is the longest since the 1990 season, when the Garnet won eight consecutive games to start the season 8-2.
Freshman Alexandra Zelaski (1-2) earned her first collegiate victory in style, blanking the Mighty Macs (0-2) over six innings in the first game. The first-year righthander allowed only five hits while striking out seven batters.
Senior outfielder Stephanie Rogan, junior third baseman Melissa LaVan, and sophomore shortstop Katie Gold each collected two hits while junior first baseman Kelly Siano and freshman center fielder Lauren Walker scored twice for Swarthmore.
Garnet catcher Christina Procacci drew two walks on the day, increasing her career total to 75. Procacci is two base on balls from tying the Centennial Conference record of 77, held by Ali Hatola from Muhlenberg.
For its next contest, Swarthmore travels north on Sunday afternoon to take on DeSales in a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader.
