Garnet Draw Even With Bullets
Sophomore forward Danielle Tocchet knocked in a corner kick from Natalie Negry '07 at 49:26 and Lauren Walker '09 made 14 big saves as Swarthmore and Gettysburg battled to a 1-1 tie in double overtime at Clothier Field on Saturday evening.
The Bullets' Steph Heath scored an unassisted goal just 56 second before halftime to give Gettysburg a 1-0 lead headed into the intermission.
Negrey lofted one of the Garnet's three total corners into the front of the Gettysburg net. Tocchet tusseled for position with a host of defenders, eventually touching the ball past Bullets' keeper Danielle St. Pierre.
The Bullets (1-5-1, 0-1-1 CC) fired on Walker for much of the night, out shooting Swarthmore 27-6. The freshman keeper kept Gettysburg at bay, including thwarting five shots in the extra sessions.
The Garnet are now 2-5-2 overall and 0-1-1 in the Centennial. The women will travel to Muhlenberg on Tuesday, September 27 for their next match. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. in Allentown, Pa.
