Wellesley Slips Past Garnet for Title

WELLESLEY, MA. Wellesley College and Swarthmore played for the 2005 Seven Sisters title this afternoon, with the Blue defeating the Garnet 3-2.

Swarthmore struck first with a quick goal only minutes into the first half off the stick of Heidi Fieselmann '06. Swarthmore then added a two-goal lead at the 25:00mark on a goal by Neema Patel '07. With seconds left in the half, Wellesley cut the lead to within one on a goal by Julia Parzych.

In the second half, Wellesley passed a chance to tie the game on the penalty shot, but would even the score with less than nine minutes on the clock when co-captain Lindsey Holiday found the net. With regulation time running out, Wellesley's Sara Stein hit the game winning goal off a corner.

Defender Chloe Lewis '06, midfielder Summer Spicer '07, and midfielder Neema Patel '07 made the All-Tournament team for their efforts.

The Garnet (4-2) will open up Centennial Conference play in their next game, travelling to Gettysburg College for a 1:00 p.m. game on Saturday, September 24.
