Swarthmore Nipped By Scarlet Raiders
The Swarthmore (6-3) volleyball team fell to Rutgers-Newark 3-2 in the championship match at the third annual Garnet Classic on Saturday evening in Tarble Pavilion.
The Garnet won the first game, 30-27, but dropped the next two by scores of 30-28 and 30-22. Swarthmore fought back to win the fourth game, 30-25, yet the Scarlet Raiders scrapped out the fifth and decisive game, 15-13.
Outside hitter Jennifer Wang '09 had a team-high 17 kills and 24 digs, while Erica George '07 added her own double-double with 15 kills and 23 digs against Rutgers-Newark (9-3).
George led Swarthmore with 38 kills on the day, earning All-Tournament status for the third consecutive year.
