Diplomats Get Revenge

Senior forward Amanda Zambrano scored 1:16 into overtime to send Franklin and Marshall to a 1-0 victory Saturday at Swarthmore in the Centennial Conference opener for both squads.

This is the third straight year the Diplomats and Garnet have needed extra time to settle the score, with Swarthmore coming away with a win each of the last two seasons.

The two teams played an evenly-matched contest through 90 minutes, with F&M holding a slight advantage in shots (8-6).

The extra session had just begun when F&M's Kelly Cassels chased down a ball at the right post and sneaked the ball across the goal mouth where Zambrano deposited the game-winner into an empty net.

F&M goalkeeper Robyn Jones made four stops for the Diplomats (5-0, 1-0 CC).  Garnet keeper Lauren Walker '09 had four saves as Swarthmore fell to 2-5-1, 0-1 in the Centennial Conference.

Swarthmore will resume their Centennial Conference schedule on Saturday night at 7:00 p.m., when they play host to the Bullets from Gettysburg on Clothier Field.
