Garnet Downed in Carlisle

Chris Harman '08 and Jeff Donlea '05 each scored a pair of goals for Swarthmore (5-5, 1-3 CC) as the Garnet fell to Dickinson College 10-6 on Saturday afternoon in Centennial Conference action.

The Red Devils (6-3 , 4-1 CC) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period and Harman answered with his first goal at 6:59 to cut the Dickinson lead in half. The Red Devils responded quickly with Scott Dalgliesh expanding their lead to 3-1 with a goal at 6:22.

The Garnet scored the first two goals of period number two to tie the contest at 3-3. Donlea found the back of the net at 11:37 and Harman followed up with his second score at 10:52. Dickinson posted two scores later in the period to take a 5-3 lead into the intermission.

The Red Devils made the score 6-3 with a goal by Flynn Burch at 11:37. The back and forth nature of the game continued as Swarthmore responded with goals from co-captain Tim Chryssikos '05 and Donlea to swing the momentum back in favor of the Garnet.

True to form, Dickinson came right back at Swarthmore, scoring three unanswered goals to expand their lead to 9-5 with 5:30. Ryan McKenna '07 scored his sixth goal of the season with 1:53 left and the Red Devils added an insurance goal forty seconds later to ensure their third consecutive win.

It was an evenly played match, statwise, with the Red Devils holding a 34-30 shot advantage and scooping up 35 ground balls to Swarthmore's 33.

Frank Mazzucco '08 made 12 saves in goal for the Garnet.

Mazzucco and his Swarthmore teammates will hit the road on Wednesday, April 20th for their next match, a 4:00 p.m. Centennial Conference duel with Muhlenberg College.
