Bullets Clip Garnet, Sweep Twinbill

Gettysburg College pounded out 22 hits off Swarthmore pitching on Saturday afternoon, winning both games of a Centennial Conference double header over the Garnet, 8-0 and 10-2 in central Pennsylvania.

The Bullets (19-4-1, 5-1 CC) came into Saturday's action leading the Centennial with a .328 team batting average. Gettysburg came out swinging in game one, getting three runs off Swarthmore starter Emily Walz for a 3-0 lead. Bullets starter Shannon Kiry took advantage of the early run-support, limiting Swarthmore to two hits over four innings, fanning two to earn her tenth win of the season.

Seniors Sam Brody and Valerie Marone collected base hits for Swarthmore as Walz suffered her third loss of the season.

Marianne Klingaman '07 took the hill in game two for Swarthmore, and held the Bullets scoreless through two innings. The Bullet bats awoke in the third, scoring four times to build an early lead.

The Garnet answered with two runs in the top of the fourth, cutting the lead to 4-2. Danielle Miller '07 reached on fielder's choice and came around to score when the Bullets right-fielder couldn't cleanly field Mary Mintel's single. Katie Gold '08 drove in Mintel with a single to left for her 10th RBI of the season.

Gettysburg got another run in the fourth and then scored five more in the fifth, claiming their 13th win in 15 games.

Klingaman suffered the loss as Mintel, Christina Procacci '06, Kelly Siano '07, and Gold all contribute hits.

Swarthmore will travel to Chestertown, Md. for their next contest, battling another Centennial Conference foe. The Garnet have scheduled a 3:00 p.m. double header with Washington College on that day, Tuesday, April 19th.
