Garnet Tide Rises High at Jersey Shore
Swarthmore (5-4) jumped out to a 5-0 first quarter lead and rolled to a 14-5 victory at Richard Stockton (7-3) in a non-conference game in Pomona, NJ. Chris Harman '08 and Jeff Donlea '05 each scored three goals and Tim Chryssikos '05 added two goals and four assists for a game-high six points.
Chryssikos got the Tide going early, scoring a goal just 8 seconds into the game off a Harman assist, and then made it 2-0 at the 8:35 mark on an unassisted tally.
The Tide closed out the quarter on a high note scoring three goals in the final 2:29. Ryan McKenna '07 scored unassisted at 2:29 and Donlea picked up his first off a Chryssikos assist with 1:19 remaining. McKenna the added a man up goal with 30 second left to give the Garnet a 5-0 advantage.
Stockton countered with two quick goals in the opening minutes of the second quarter to close to 5-2 but that's as close as they would get. The Tide answered with three more goals as Donlea, Harman and Tom Coughlin '05 gave Swarthmore an 8-2 halftime advantage.
Chryssikos set up the next two Garnet goals for Paul Chung '05 and Harman to extend the lead to 10-2 with 9:46 remaining in the third. Ryan McQuilken halted the Garnet scoring string at five goals when he scored a man down goal at 9:15 and then assisted on Anthony Severino's man up goal at 7:42 cutting the lead to 10-4.
Coughlin added his second score of the game and Gavin Nurick '07 hit the back of the net with 1:37 remaining to give the Garnet a 12-4 lead after the third.
Donlea and Harman each notched their hat tricks with fourth quarter goals as the Garnet held a 40-28 shot advantage over the Ospreys. Frank Mazzucco '08 made 10 saves in goal for the Tide.
Swarthmore returns to Centennial action on Saturday with a 1 p.m. trip to Dickinson.
