Garnet Knock Blue Jays Off Perch
Swarthmore cruised to a 6-3 Centennial Conference victory over visiting Johns Hopkins on Faulkner Courts. Sonya Reynolds '07 was a double-winner in leading the Garnet to its 13th consecutive conference win.
Hopkins got off to the quick start, posting wins at second and third doubles to take a 2-1 advantage. Sonya Reynolds '07 and Waverly Lutz '07 teamed up for an easy 8-1 victory at No. 1 over Meghan Hausenauer and Jill Seideman to give the Garnet the first point but the Blue Jays took the next two matches. Vandna Jerath and Tonya Gulnick defeated Sara Sargent '07 and Elli Suzuki '06 8-5 and Michelle Liang and Becky Busch knocked off Emily Townsend '06 and Erica Lukoski '08 8-6.
The Garnet improved its streak to 13 in a row as they stepped up to dominate singles play. Reynolds was a 6-1, 6-0 winner over Liang at No. 1 and Suzuki recorded a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Jerath at No. 2. Gulnick defeated Lutz at No. 3, 6-1, 6-2 and Sargent dominated Bush, 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4. Townsend was a 6-1, 6-3 winner over Hausenauer and Sonia Vallabh '06 ended the contest with a 6-2, 2-6, 6-1 victory at No. 6 over Mary Gorshi.
The Garnet return to action on Thursday with a trip to Washington for a 4 p.m. match. Results
