Red Devils Sweep Garnet

Dickinson won both ends of a Centennial Conference doubleheader, defeating the Garnet (7-17, 1-3) 8-5 in game one and 3-0 in the nightcap.

The Red Devils used a five run second inning en route to an 8-5 decision in game one. The Garnet jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first when a Katie Gold '08 single scored Sam Brody '05 and Danielle Miller '06.

Dickinson countered with a five-spot when they put together seven consecutive hits to start the inning. Megan Spears provide the big blow with a two-run double.

Val Marone '05 led off the second with a single and later scored to make it a 5-3 game. The Red Devils then added two more runs in the fourth to extend the lead to 7-3.

The Garnet added two more runs in the sixth when Gold led off with a double and scored on a Marone single. Marone scored on an error to make it a 7-5 game.

The Devils added an insurance run in the seventh when Alex Speace reached on an error and scored on a Kaitlyn McDonald single.

The Garnet loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh on a one-out single by Miller and back-to-back two-out singles by Gold and Marianne Klingaman '07 but could not bring home any runs.

Gold was 3 for 4 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored and Marone was 2 for 4 with two runs. Jess Burger went 3 for 3, scored three runs and had an RBI and Rachel Fleming wa 3 for 4 with two runs and and RBI to lead the Devils. Lauren Porter improved to 2-7 with the win and Klingaman fell to 3-6 with the loss.

In game 2, Sarah McGowan (4-4) scattered six hits en route to the shutout victory. Speace drew a walk and scored the game's first run in the third inning on a Jen Korth double.

Dickinson added two runs in the top of the seventh when Burger and McDonald both scored on Amy DiBiase '08 wild pitches.

The Garnet tried to rally in its last at bat as Melissa LaVan '07 drew a one out walk and Brody singled but two ground outs ended the game.

Mary Mintel '05 was 2 for 2 with a double and DiBiase allowed six hits and struck out four to fall to 2-5 on the season.

The Garnet hosts Muhlenberg on Tuesday in a 3 p.m. Centennial Conference doubleheader.
