#15 Tartans Edge #25 Garnet 5-4

Sara Sargent '07 was a double-winner but the 25th ranked Garnet fell to No. 15 Carnegie Mellon 5-4 in a key regional matchup on Faulkner Courts.

Sargent teamed with Elli Suzuki '06 to post an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles and Emily Townsend '06 and Waverly Lutz '07 were 8-5 winners at No. 3 to give the Garnet a 2-1 lead after the doubles session. Sonya Reynolds '07 and Marissa Matthews '07 fell to amy Staloch and Mona Iyer 8-5 at No. 1.

Reynolds rebounded to defeat Staloch 6-4, 6-2 at No. 1 singles but Iyer edged Suzuki 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2. Matthews retired with an injury at No. 3 giving the match to Alison Liu. Lui had a 6-3, 2-1 lead at the time Matthews retired. Sargent recorded her second win of the day with a 6-0, 6-4 decision over Kavita Shah at No. 5 and Mai Otsuka was a 6-2, 6-1 winner over Townsend at No. 6.

The match deadlocked at 4-4 came down to the No. 4 singles match of Lutz against Grace Hwang. Hwang prevailed in three sets 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 to tilt the match to the Tartans.

The Garnet fall to 5-5 on the season and will return to Centennial Conference play tomorrow when Johns Hopkins visits at noon. Results
