Red Devils Halt Garnet Streak
Swarthmore saw their three-game winning streak come to an end on Saturday afternoon as Dickinson College handed the Garnet a 14-8 defeat in rainy Carlisle, Pa.
The Red Devils struck early, just sixteen seconds into the game and pulled in front 5-2 with 4:41 remaining in the first half. Swarthmore battled back, cutting the deficit to 5-4 following back-to-back goals from Megan Sanborn '08 and Ele Forbes '05.
Dickinson answered with a pair of goals of their own to push their advantage to 7-4 with 2:31 left in the half. Midfielder Rachel Jordan '08 swung the momentum in Swarthmore's favor, putting home an unassisted goal with 36 seconds remaining before half.
The Garnet carried that momentum into the second half as sophomore Lindsay Roth scored the first goal of the second half to bring Swarthmore within one goal.
Dickinson answered with five straight goals to take control 12-6, and the teams traded goalsl over the final 20 minutes to make the final 14-8.
Susannah Blair '08 had an impressive showing in net, making 23 saves for the Garnet (6-3, 1-2 CC). Dickinson goaltender Gabby Joffie played outstanding in the cage as well,stopping 18 shots on the day as the Red Devils won their seventh consecutive game.
Roth led Swarthmore with two goals and an assist while Sanborn tallied two scores of her own. Heidi Fieselmann '06, Forbes, Jordan, and Katie Crawford '07 all contributed goals for the Garnet.
Swarthmore look to rebound on Tuesday, April 5th when they travel to Bryn Mawr College for a 4:00 p.m. contest.
