Chaplin Outruns Rain at Danny Curran Invite

Vernon Chaplin '07 and James Golden '05 ran third and fourth in the 1500 meter race as Swarthmore competed in the annual Danny Curran Invitational hosted by Widener University.

The Garnet had five runnners post times in the top 15, led by Chaplin, who ran the 10th-best 1500 time in school history (4:01.34). Teammate Golden was right behind Chaplin in the first heat, running a time of 4:04.29. Garret Ash '05 ran 4:12.89 in the second heat, with teammates Paul Thibodeau '06 (4:24.28) and Keefe Keely '06 (4:26) overcoming the wet track with strong times.

Tyler Lyson '05 ran the 400 meter race in a stready rain, clocking in at 51.56 while teammate Matt Schiller '07 cracked the top 15 with a time of 53.02.

Duncan Gromko '07 ran a strong 800 meter race, defeating a pair of runners from Villanova University with a time of 2:01.85.

Ross Weller '08 (right) was only three seconds off a top-10 time in the 3000 meter steeplechase, rounding the course in a time of 10:22.48.

The Garnet will compete this Saturday, April 9th, at the Delaware Invite beginning at 10:00 a.m.
