Mendelson, Garnet Rally For Win

Catcher Ben Mendelson '08 drove home left fielder Scott Young '08 with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, sending Swarthmore to a rousing 10-9 victory over MacMurray College in Ft. Myers, FL.

Swarthmore found themselves down 8-1 in the early innings before exploding for six runs in the fifth. Designated hitter Travis Allen '08 came to the plate in the bottom of the seventh with two outs and MacMurray leading 9-7. Allen ignited the rally with a two-out single and before it was over the Garnet had plated three runs and evened their record at 2-2 on the season.

Jared Leiderman '05 pitched two scoreless innings of relief for the victory while Mendelson, Young, and center fielder Scott Dalane'08 had three hits apiece.

The Garnet dropped their early game, 14-3 to New Jersey University at Terry Park.

Swarthmore will face Olivet College in their next contest, a 7:00 p.m. game on Wednesday, March 9th.
