Garnet Roll to Victory over Pomona
Swarthmore ended their southern California trip by cruising to an 8-1 victory over Pomona-Pitzer on Monday afternoon.
Sonya Reynolds '07, Sara Sargent '07, Elli Suzuki '06, and Marissa Matthews '07 claimed victories in singles' and doubles' action to propel the Garnet to their second victory of the spring season.
Reynolds won her third straight match at No. 1 singles, defeating Molly Burman 6-2, 6-1 and combined with Waverly Lutz '07 in No. 1 doubles to squeak by Jennifer Wilcox and Brittany Biebl 9-8 [7-4].
Suzuki took care of business in No. 2 singles, beat Biebl 6-1, 5-7, 6-1 and combined with Sargent in No. 2 doubles, defeating Margot Filstein and Burman 8-6.
Matthews won her second match of the season, taking the No. 4 singles point by beating Filstein 6-1, 7-5. Matthews teamed up with Emily Townsend '06 to win the third doubles match, 8-3, over Lea Hartog and Guthrie.
Sargent won 7-6, 6-2 in No. 5 singles, beating Guthrie while teammate Sonia Vallabh '06 won 6-4, 6-0 over Hartog in the No. 6 singles.
In their next match, Swarthmore (2-1) will open their Centennial Conference schedule, traveling to Haverford College on March 19th at 12:00 p.m. Results
