Garnet Fly By Owls
Swarthmore captured 9 of 11 events en route to a 147-56 Centennial Conference victory at Bryn Mawr. The Garnet move to 5-3 overall, 3-1 in the Conference.
Martyna Pospieszalska '06, Whitney Nekoba '08, Jennie Lewis '08, Michele Hom '07 and Janice Yeo '07 were all double-winners for the Garnet.
Pospieszalska, Hom, Yeo and Lewis got the Garnet off to a fast start with a win in the 200 medley relay finishing in 2:01.92. Nekoba then won the 1000 freestyle in a personal best time of 11:09.78 to place ahead of Franny Zhang '08 (11:38.53).
Tara Finley '06 won the 200 freestyle in 2:07.16 and Sarah Cotcamp '07 sprinted to a victory in the 50 freestyle in 26.34, Hom places second in 27.40 and Erin Dwyer-Frazier '05 completed the sweep in 27.45 to give the Garnet a 58-14 lead through four events.
Bryn Mawr won the next two events as Stacy Claxton captured the 200 IM in 2:21.28 to finish ahead of Katherine Reid '05 (2:23.15) and Kayla Gaydosh (1:04.05) finished ahead of Maila Sepri '05 (1:05.23) to win the 100 butterfly.
Nekoba (56.69), Cotcamp (56.84) and Zhang (58.09) led a sweep of the 100 freestyle and Melanie Johncilla '05 touched the wall first in the 100 backstroke in 1:07.19.
Lewis (5:27.67), Reid (5:38.57) and Katie Altynova '08 (5:43.98) went 1-2-3 in the 500 freestyle and Hom (1:14.57) and Finley (1:19.20) place 1-2 in the 100 breaststroke.
In the closest race of the evening the 200 freestyle relay team of Pospieszalska, Yeo, Zhang, and Patricia Funk '06 (1:47.34) edged out teammates Stacey Prow '06, Johncilla, Lewis, and Nekoba (1:47.45) to win by 0.09.
Saturday, the Garnet travel to Gettysburg for a 2 pm Centennial meet.
