Red Devils Slip By Garnet

Ian McCormick '08 scored a career-high 27 points but the Garnet fell for the 10th consecutive game, dropping an 86-76 Centennial Conference decision at Dickinson.

McCormick hit 9-of-10 attempts and was 9-of-12 from the line to lead both teams in scoring. The first-year center also pulled down seven rebounds and had three blocked shots.

Swarthmore led 34-33 at the half, extending the lead to six with 10:14 remaining in the game. The Red Devils used a late 19-5 run to pull away from the Garnet.

Matt Gustafson '05 scored 25 points and pulled downsix boards, Matt Kurman '08 chipped in with 15 points and five assists, and Mark Rohde '07 pulled down a career best nine rebounds.

Gustafson moved into second place on the career scoring list with 1,516 points and needs just 48 more to become the College's all-time leading scorer.

Jon Skvarka led Dickinson with 19 points and nine rebounds.

The Garnet fall to 1-10 overall, 0-4 in the Centennial while the Devils move to 6-5, 3-1.

Swarthmore hosts McDaniel on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
