New Human Resources Website

The Human Resources Department has launched a new website. The new site includes information on employment, benefits, payroll, the Employee Handbook, and convenient links to benefit providers and forms. The website was created in Ingeniux, the College’s web content management system. Please send any suggestions or feedback about the new HR website to humanresources@swarthmore.edu. Media Services facilitates a videoconference w/ the University of Hong Kong

On Wednesday night, March 19, Media Services facilitated an hour long, high bandwidth videoconference between the Sociology & Anthropology department at Swarthmore College and the Sociology department at the University of Hong Kong. Participants were able to see and hear each other in a full screen, natural setting using a high bandwidth 384 kbps conference connection over the Internet. Swarthmore Media Services rolled out is brand new Tandberg Edge 85 conference unit with a high definition camera, and a 42″ Sony plasma monitor. Kicking off the Email, Calendering, and Collabortion Tools project

As Gayle Barton recently announced, ITS will be working on a project this year to update the tools we use for email. Because of the way that email programs have evolved, the project will also present us with the opportunity to look at a number of other collaboration tools, such as calendaring and document sharing. In this initial phase, we’ll be focused on two things. First, we will facilitate moving as many faculty and staff as possible off of Eudora as the main email program on your desktops. Tip: Using Windows media files on a Mac

If you come across a Windows video or audio file that your Mac can’t recognize, don’t despair. Unfortunately, Macs can’t automatically play back files with .wmv or .wma file extensions. The good news is that with a quick installation of some extra components, any Mac running OS X 10.3.9 or later and QuickTime 7 or later can playback Windows video through the QuickTime player.
