Microsoft released Windows 8 on October 26th, 2012 and most Windows hardware vendors are now shipping systems with Windows 8 installed. ITS Recommendation Information Technology Services (ITS) will support Windows 8 for our clients, including off-campus students, on new systems that ship with Windows 8 pre-installed. ITS strongly recommends that College community members thinking of upgrading to Windows 8 adopt a “wait and see” approach, continuing to use earlier supported versions of Windows (Windows 7 SP1 and Windows XP SP3) until the initial bugs and compatibility issues in Windows 8 are identified and fixed. Academic Technology is pleased to welcome new Media Center Coordinator and recent Swarthmore College graduate Tayarisha Poe ’12 to the Information Technology Services team. Tayarisha brings a wealth of knowledge about video production, digital photography, printing and the Adobe CS suite along with her lively and welcoming personality to the Media Center.  She has particular interests in multimedia storytelling, digital cinematography and DSLR video production, and we look forward to a series of instructional workshops she’ll be hosting through the academic year on these and other media related topics. ITS will be hosting a series of workshops for faculty and staff interested in learning more about Moodle. Our Introduction to Moodle workshops cover the basics of getting started and how to set up a course in Moodle.  You can bring your syllabus and readings and start to set up your courses for Fall 2012. The Intermediate Moodle workshops are geared towards people with some experience using Moodle and cover how to set up online assignments, blogs, wikis, surveys, and quizzes in Moodle. The Blackboard leaning management system will be shut down permanently on June 29, 2012.   Please save any materials you have on Blackboard that you would like to retain.  ITS has archived all the courses and organizations  on Blackboard and can assist with transferring your materials to Moodle, the new learning management system. [updated 6/22/12 to include information on the Honor Exams archive] Is Blackboard really going away?  Yes, our Blackboard license expires at the end of June 2012 and the system will be shut down and totally unavailable. Blackboard Shut-down and Moodle Training

Blackboard will be turned off on June 29, 2012.  Starting at the beginning of June, ITS will be archiving all courses and organizations in preparation for the shut down.  If you have important information in a Blackboard course or organization, please download your materials or export your course to your computer.
