King Paces Garnet Cross Country at DeSales
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Sophomore Bill King earned a Top 10 finish with a time of 27:19.57to lead the Swarthmore College men's cross country team to a sixth-place finish at the DeSales Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
As a team, the Garnet finished fifth among Division III competition with 159 points in the squads final prep race before the Centennial Conference Championships (Oct. 31 from Johns Hopkins).
After King, two Garnet finished in the Top 20, as freshman Robert Fain came in 17th place, crossing the line in a time of 27:42.4. Right behind him was sophomore Jacob Phillips, who finished 20th (27:51.38).
Rounding out the top seven for Swarthmore were freshman Richard Scott (56th/28:41.52), senior Chris Wickham (58th/28:43.17), freshman Stuart Russell (63rd/28:47.35) and junior Danny Cramer (82nd/29:10.85). The field included close to 300 runners.
Kutztown took first place, followed by Centennial-rival Muhlenberg and host DeSales.
Swarthmore returns to action on October 31 with the Centennial Conference championship from Johns Hopkins.
