Garnet Field Hockey Routs Bryn Mawr 15-0
SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore field hockey team (3-4, 1-0) put on a show on Wednesday evening, dominating the visiting Bryn Mawr Owls by a score of 15-0 from Clothier Field Stadium.
Sophomore Katie Teleky scored four goals, senior Sophia Ferguson scored three, sophomore Sophia Agathis and freshman Nia Jones each scored two, while sophomore Taryn Colonnese, freshman Aarti Rao, and seniors Devon Novotnak and Hadley Roach added a goal apiece to cap the Swat onslaught in its Centennial Conference-opener.
The Garnet wasted no time in breaking the game open, with Ferguson scoring three times in the first thirteen minutes of play; two were assisted by Agathis, one by Jones. Ferguson returned the favor in the 27th minute, assisting Jones’ second goal of the season, and again in the second half on Jones’ second goal of the day. By the end of the first half, Roach, Colonnese, and Teleky had all found the net, and Swarthmore was staked to a 7-0 lead.
There was no letup when play resumed, as Novotnak and Rao both scored less than three minutes into the half. Rao’s goal was the first of her collegiate career. Teleky and Agathis combined for five goals in the second half, and Rao and freshman Anne Rosenblatt added assists.
The Garnet dominated every aspect of play, outshooting Bryn Mawr 37-3 and posting 31 shots on goal to Bryn Mawr’s two. Senior goalie Katie Ashmore faced two shots and recorded two saves, and freshman Gabriella Capone also played 21 scoreless minutes in goal.
The Garnet looks to continue its winning ways as the team travels to Johns Hopkins this Saturday. Play is set to start at 1 PM.
