Garnet Tennis Cruises to 8-1 Win Over F&M
LANCASTER, Pa. - Sophomore Rosie DuBrin picked up victories at No. 1 singles and doubles, as the Swarthmore College women's tennis team (11-4, 9-1) cruised to an 8-1 victory over Franklin & Marshall in its final match before the Centennial Conference playoffs Saturday afternoon from Lancaster.
Swarthmore - the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Centennial Conference playoffs - will next host Dickinson or Haverford in the semifinals on Saturday at a time to be determined.
Swat opened the match with DuBrin and freshman Emily Rosenblum taking No. 1 doubles 8-0 over F&M's Meredith Lackey/Dana Russo. The Diplomats responded at No. 2, as the combo of Danielle Weiner/Valeri Harteg defeated sophomore Luann Cignavitch and junior Alexis Hickman 9-8 (3-1). The Garnet took the final point by forfeit.
From there, Swat swept all of singles play en route to the 8-1 win.
The Garnet open the Centennial Conference playoffs at home on Saturday with a semifinal battle with the time and opponent yet to be determined.
