Garnet Tennis Kicks Mules, 7-2
ALLENTOWN, Pa. - Sophomore Stephen Youngblood picked up a No. 1 singles win for the second consecutive match while sophomore Max Bressman and freshmen Malik Mubeen and Seth Udelson each picked up singles and doubles victories as the Garnet (3-6, 2-0) defeated Muhlenberg 7-2 on Wednesday afternoon.
Swarthmore - ranked No. 8 in the Atlantic South region - took the top five singles positions, highlighted by Youngblood's 6-2, 6-3 win over Muhlenberg's Jordan Rutt from the No. 1 slot. Sophomore Zak Kelm took care of Mules' Robbie Goldwein 6-3, 6-1 in No. 2 singles. Bressman clinched the match for the Garnet with a win over Muhlenberg's Zach Adler 6-2, 6-1. First years shined in No. 4 and No. 5 singles for Swarthmore, as Mubeen (6-2, 6-4) and Udelson (6-1,6-0) picked up convincing wins to close it out for the Garnet.
The match started promisingly enough for the Mules, as the pair of Rutt and Adler knocked off the No. 1 Swat pair of Youngblood/Kelm 8-6. But the Garnet bounced back, sweeping the final two doubles contests to take control of the match.
It's a double dip for the Garnet on Saturday, as Swat hosts both Centennial rival Gettysburg (noon) and Williams (4:00 p.m.) from the College.
