Swarthmore Student-Athletes Named to the All-Centennial Conference Sportsmanship Team
LANCASTER, Pa. - Six Swarthmore student-athletes were named to the fall All-Centennial Conference Sportsmanship Team today. The Centennial's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee created the team to emphasize sportsmanship within the Conference. All institutions elected one member from their team who displays good sportsmanship throughout the season to be a member of the All-Centennial team.
Men's Basketball
Matt Allen '10 (Seattle, Wash. - Lakeside)
As senior captain, Allen led the Garnet to an improved 7-18 2009-10 record including key upsets over Ursinus, Gettysburg and Johns Hopkins. Allen also finished his career with the eighth all-time career assists at Swarthmore with 217.
Women's Basketball
Pam Costello '10 (Havertown, Pa. - Haverford High School)
Senior captain Costello led the Garnet women to a solid 12-13 season while leading the team with a .900 free-throw percentage and was second on the team with 54 assists. Costello is now sixth all-time at Swarthmore with 214 assists.
Men's Swimming
Danny Friel '10 (Pottstown, Pa. - Owen J. Roberts)
Friel, senior captian of the men's swim team, led the Garnet to a second place finish in the Centennial Conference Championships and recorded six top 15 times in the championships.
Women's Swimming
Naomi Glassman '12 (Palo Alto, Calif. - Henry M. Gunn)
Glassman had a great showing at the Centennial Championship meet clocking in four top 10 times as well as helping the 200-yard freestyle relay and 200-yard medley relay teams to fifth place finishes.
Men's Indoor Track and Field
Daniel Ly '12 (Hershey, Pa. - Hershey)
Ly put together a season of personal bests and Swarthmore records including a fourth-place finish in the men's triple jump at the Centennial Conference Championships. Ly had a season-best jump of 43'7.75" to just miss a top-three finish.
Women's Indoor Track and Field
Natalie Degaiffer '10 (Washington, D.C. - Washington International)
Degaiffer had a great season qualifying for Centennial Championships in the women's long jump. Degaiffer had a season best 4.10 long jump.
