Swarthmore Falls to McDaniel in Another Heartbreaker, 71-66
SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Junior Kathryn Stockbower scored 19 points and pulled down nine rebounds while junior Ceylan Bodur and freshman Madeline Ross each scored 15 points against visiting McDaniel (15-4, 13-2 CC), but the Swarthmore College women's basketball team (9-11, 6-9 CC) fell in heartbreaking fashion once again, 71-66 on Monday evening from Tarble Pavilion.

The difference in the game was rebounding; McDaniel pulled down 41 rebounds, 20 of which were offensive. The Green Terror rebounding edge was no more evident than in the final three minutes of play, when the Green Terror had five offensive rebounds and ran nearly a minute and thirty seconds off the clock on one possession.
The Garnet built a six point lead 38-32 early in the second half, but McDaniel responded with a 10-0 run to put the Terror up by four at 42-38. The next four minutes were as fast paced as you could ask for, with five lead changes and 16 points scored only to see the score tied again at 52.
After a short 4-0 run gave the Green Terror a 56-52 lead, sophomore Genny Pezzola created an incredible four-point-play to tie the game up with less than eight minutes to play.
But that was as close as the Garnet would ever get. With the game tied 64-64, McDaniel senior Ali Moreland hit a crucial three-pointer off yet another McDaniel offensive rebound, giving the Green Terror a lead it would never relinquish.
From there, McDaniel freshman Katelyn Fischer sealed the win for the Green Terror, going three for four from the free-throw line in the closing minutes. Fischer led McDaniel with 18 points. Moreland finished with 15 points, leaving her just three points shy of 1,000.
McDaniel has now won 15 straight games; its last loss came on December 1, 2009, when Swarthmore defeated the Green Terror 51-49.
Stockbower's nine rebounds snaps her streak of 10 consecutive double-doubles.
The Garnet are now 5-6 in games under five points.
Swarthmore will try to bounce back on Wednesday, February 3rd when it travels to No. 12 Muhlenberg. Action is slated to begin at 6:00 p.m.
