Swarthmore Swim Teams Down Cabrini

Results

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Early domination by both the men's and women's swimming teams powered Swarthmore past the visiting Cabrini Cavaliers on Saturday afternoon from Ware Pool.  The Garnet women (3-3, 1-2 CC) won 148-88 while the Garnet men (3-3, 2-1 CC) won 74-55.

Senior Casey Osborn took third-place in the 200-freestyle with a time of 2:10.53

The women sealed the deal in only the 19th event of the afternoon with a one-two finish in the 200-yard breaststroke by junior Stephanie Su and sophomore Rosalie Lawrence.  Su clocked in at 2:37.44 and Lawrence right behind her in 2:38.52.

To start the day's action the Garnet women flew off the blocks to take an early 15-2 lead after clocking the top two times in the 200-yard medley relay.  The relay team comprised of Su, senior Anne Miller, and juniors Chelsea Brett and Melinda Neal touched the wall first with a time of 1:59.43.

The women went one-two in six events; the 200-yard medley, 1000-yard freestyle, 100-yard breaststroke, 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard backstroke and the 200-yard breastroke.

In the 200-yard freestyle Brett (2:07.65), junior Allison Bishop (2:09.11), senior Casey Osborn (2:10.53) and sophomore Jacqueline Scala (2:10.54) owned the top four times.

Swarthmore also clocked in the top three times in the 100-yard backstroke with Glassman, Neal and freshman Michelle Call touching the wall in that order.

Senior Danny Friel took third in the 100-yard breaststroke in Saturday's meet vs. Cabrini.

On the men's side, it was all over by the tenth event with a one-two-three finish in the 100-yard breaststroke.  Sophomore Lance Liu touched the wall in 1:04.17, senior Michael Ahn in 1:05.25 and senior  Danny Friel in 1:06.15.

The Garnet swam for the top four spots in the 100-yard backstroke with sophomore Sam Bullard-Sisken (58.38), freshman Roger Chin (58.92), sophomore Neil Palmer (58.94) and sophomore Tim Brevart (1:04.45) reaching for the wall ahead of the Cavaliers.

Swarthmore swam to victory in every event of the day.

The Garnet women return to action on Wednesday when conference foe Bryn Mawr visit the Ware pool at 6 PM.  The men's squad will resume competition when Gettysburg comes to Swarthmore.  Swimming starts at 2 PM.
