Garnet Women Fall to Ursinus in Final Seconds, 66-64

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - The Swarthmore women's basketball team (6-8, 3-6) rallied from down 10 points in final four minutes of play, but Ursinus guard Alli Rosati sank two foul shots with 3.2 seconds remaining in regulation to break a 64-64 tie and the Garnet turned the ball over on its final possession, as the Bears hung on to defeat the Garnet 66-64 in Centennial Conference action on Saturday afternoon.

Junior Kathryn Stockbower scored 14 points and pulled down 13 rebounds for the 54th double-double of her career, while freshman guard Madeline Ross scored 11 points off the bench. Swat used a 12-0 run to tie the game 64-64 with 22 seconds remaining, only to fall short in the end.

The 12-0 run to tie the game came thanks Ross and the Garnet bench, with 10 of the 12 points being scored by Ross, freshman Eliza Polli and senior Lisa Schumacher.

The Garnet bench played a leading role to keep Swarthmore in it to the end. Along with Ross' 11 points, sophomore Genny Pezzola (9), Polli (6) and Schumacher (9) added 24 points off the bench.

Swarthmore shot an amazing 58 percent from the field and 60 percent from behind the arc in the second half but were ultimately doomed by poor first half shooting that saw the Garnet net only eight of its 24 shots from the field.

Ursinus' Jaclyn Hilf dropped six 3-pointers and a total of 20 points for the Bears.

The Garnet will try to regain momentum when it travels to arch-rival Haverford on Wednesday January 20. The battle begins at 6 PM.
