Garnet Men Indoor Track Opens Season at Jack Pyrah Invitational
HAVERFORD, Pa. - Competing against many Division I and II teams from the Philadelphia area, the Swarthmore College men's indoor track team opened its season with the 2009 Jack Pyrah Invitational from Haverford College.Several newcomers and second-years led the way for the Garnet in the season-opening event.
Sophomore Daniel Ly was Garnet's top performer of the day, placing in the top five of the men's triple-jump (12.76m) and was also Swarthmore's top finisher in the men's long jump, earning seventh place with a leap of 5.97m. Ly also led the Garnet in the 55 meter dash, finishing with a time of 7.14 for 31st place, while teammates Max Hubbard and Max Wilson tied 35th with a time of 7.40.
Freshman Cary Chester also earned a Top 20 spot in the men's 800 meter dash, crossing the finish line in a time of 2:06.22.
Junior Chris Mayer-Bacon was the Garnet's top finisher in the 500 meter dash, crossing the line in a time of 1:11.60, good for a 16th-place finish and one of the best Division III marks.
Senior Andrew Van Buren was Swarthmore's top placer in the 1 mile run, completed the mile in a time of 4:53.41 (15).
The Garnet return to action on January 8 with the Delaware Invitational.
