Field Hockey Downed By Green Terror 3-2

WESTMINSTER, Md. - Senior captain Joslyn Young added a penalty stroke goal in the final minute of play, but it was not enough of a rally for the Garnet (4-6, 1-3), as they fell to McDaniel 3-2 on Saturday evening.

Catie Meador also scored a second-half goal for Swarthmore but it was not enough to topple a Green Terror team that was powered by a hat trick from Lindsay Riordon.

The loss is the Garnet's three consecutive by a one-goal margin.

After a scoreless first 20 minutes of play, Riordon went off for the Green Terror, scoring two goals in three-minute span in the 23rd and 26h minutes to give McDaniel a 2-0 lead.

The game remained 2-0 through halftime and into the second half until Meador got the Garnet on the scoreboard. Following an assist from freshman Sophia Agathis, Meador scored a long goal from the top of the arc to cut the lead to 2-1.

But Riordon had the answer to the Swat rally. She completed the hat trick in the 53th minute when she tapped in a goal in front of the net, making the score 3-1.

In goal for Swarthmore, senior captain Gina Grubb made four saves.

It's a quick turnaournd for Swarthmore as the Garnet host Manhattanville tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. from Clothier Field Stadium.
