Fords Speed Past Garnet
HAVERFORD, Pa. -- Host Haverford College earned a 6-3 Centennial Conference win over Swarthmore in women's tennis action at the Bramall Courts in the Lutnick Tennis Center on Wednesday afternoon.
With the win Haverford (8-7, 7-2 CC) earned a post season trip to the Conference tournament next week while Swarthmore fell to 4-9 overall and 3-5 Centennial record.
Swarthmore’s top duo senior Jennie Park (Rockford, Ill. / Guilford) and junior Rachel Wallwork (Washington, D.C. / Georgetown Day) were the only visiting winners on the day collecting wins in both singles and doubles. The pair pushed their current win streak to five matches in a row topping Haverford’s top team 8-4.
In No. 1 singles action Wallwork continued her 19-match Conference win streak as she downed Ford’s Katie Wettick, the only other undefeated No. 1 Centennial player, with scores of 6-4 and 6-1.
Park brought her A-game this afternoon completing her No. 2 singles match with winning scores of 6-1 and 6-0.
Swarthmore will compete in their final regular season match this Saturday, April 25th when they host Centennial Conference foe Franklin & Marshall. The teams will start their first sets at 1:00 p.m.
