Bernasek Just Fantastic at Springhaven
WALLINGFORD, Pa. -- Garnet senior Michael Bernasek posted a collegiate-best round of 76 for the second time this spring, winning individual honors at the Tom Ruggieri Invitational II hosted by Widener University at The Springhaven Club Thursday afternoon.
Swarthmore finished second as a team in the local tri-match with a total score of 329. Neumann posted a team score of 326 for the victory while host Widener was third with 364.
Bernasek (Fairfield, Conn. / Hopkins School) won by three strokes, shooting six-over par on the nicest day in Delaware County since March at the 6,355-yard layout. He has twice before posted a 76 in a round, most recently on March 26 at Rolling Green Golf Club.
Freshman Paul Weston (Waterbury, Vt. / Harwood Union) finished tied for second with a 79 while classmate Alex Nichamin (Brookville, Pa. / Brookville) added an 87 to finish tied for eighth with teammate Kelly Schoolmeester ’10 (Irmo, S.C. / Irmo).
Swarthmore will participate in its fourth event in a week, sneaking down Interstate 95 to face off against Eastern and Neumann at Rock Manor Country Club.
