Washington Shores Up Win Over Garnet

SWARTHMORE, Pa. -- Washington College blanked host Swarthmore 6-0 on Tuesday afternoon at Clothier Fields in Centennial Conference baseball action.

The visiting Shoremen evened out their record at 8-8 overall and 2-3 in the Conference while the Garnet fell to 8-12, 0-3 CC.

Washington split their runs scoring three in both the third and eighth innings en route to a Conference win.

Swarthmore sophomore center fielder Ben Schneiderman (Easton, Pa. / Easton) started off the game earning his second double for the second day in a row. Freshman catcher Matt Lamb (Pacific Palisades, Calif. / Loyola) led Swarthmore going 2-for-3 on the afternoon with two singles. Freshman Mike Waterhouse (Weston, Conn. / Weston) tied his season-high seven game hitting streak with a double to center field in the bottom of the fourth.

Sophomore Neil Mejia (Oak Park, Ill. / Oak Park & River Forest) (2-3) started on the mound for the Garnet pitching 7.1 innings, taking the loss. Mejia struck out five batters on the afternoon before being relieved by freshmen Adam Hardy (Pompano Beach, Fla. / Pine Crest) and Zach Weiner (Baltimore, Md. / McDonogh School) who combined for the last 1.2 innings.

The Garnet will look to revenge the day’s loss when they travel to Chestertown, Md. this Friday, April 3rd to end the series with Washington. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
