Garnet Swims To Finals

LANCASTER, Pa. -- The Swarthmore swim teams had 15 swimmers qualify in the first session of the 2009 Centennial Conference Swimming Championships on Friday morning.

Junior Anne Miller (Buffalo, N.Y. / Buffalo Seminary) clocked in a 5:15.16 race-time in the women's 500-yard free style while sophomore Allison Bishop (Macungie, Pa. / Emmaus) qualified with a time of 5:22.79.

Two men's swimmers will race in the 500-yard free style after their prelim times, senior Stephen Shymon (Encinitas, Calif. / Univ. of San Diego) placed second hitting the boards at 4:49.4 and sophomore Derrick Kao (Santa Monica, Calif. / Harvard-Westlake) clocked in a 4:59.75.

Junior Casey Osborn (Albany, Calif. / Albany) paced three of teammates in the women's 200-yard individual medley with a fourth place time of 2:16.76. Freshman Roslalie Lawrence (Santa Cruz, Calif. / Pacific Collegiate School) picked-up an eighth place finish with 2:18.30 showing on the clock. Also qualifying for the finals were sophomore Stephanie Su (Parsippany, N.J. / Parsippany Hills) and senior Laura Rainey (Arlington, Va. / Yorktown) with respective times of 2:19.04 and 2:22.38.

Sophomore Sterling Satterfield (Durham, N.C. / Charles E. Jordan) and junior Danny Friel (Pottstown, Pa. / Owen J. Roberts) will both be swimming in the men's 200 individual medley finals this evening as they qualified with times of 1:59.47 and 2:01.82.

Sophomore Chelsea Brett (Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Trinity) just missed a school record by three tenths of a second in the women's 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.95. Junior Claire Shelden (Lewistown, Mont. / Fergus) also qualified for the finals with a time of 25.96.

Senior Doug Glichrist-Scott (Canton, Ohio / Hoover) placed third in the men's 50-yard freestyle clocking in a 21.52 and with only one swimmer between them, freshman Tim Brevart (Swarthmore, Pa. / Strath Haven) placed fourth with a 21.65 finish-time. Junior Guy Seaton (Jacksonville Beach, Fla. / Stanton College Prep) also qualified with a time of 22.36.

The first round of finals for the 2009 Conference Championship will begin this evening at 7:00 p.m.
